Your credit report contains a lot of information about you. Sometimes it can contain more than you wish it to. A good credit report can be a deciding factor in future credit lending or large purchasing. Here are some of the things listed and what you can do to make sure that your credit application is less likely to be refused.
The basic information included on your credit report is your name, address, telephone number, social security number and your date of birth. Any previous addresse or telephone numbers are also included in the report, whether or not they are unlisted or not, or whether yu would like them to appear or not. You have no control over this, so don't bother worrying yourself over it.
Your history of employment is also listed here, so that the agency providing you credit can make sure that you have a steady source of income and that you don't change jobs too often, which would of course interrupt your constant flow of cash. Here is where you can do something. If you have recently started a new job, make sure that you have been working for a couple of months or at the very least a couple of weeks before applying for credit. This makes sure that you are displaying stability and increases your chances of success.
Funnily enough, your age is left out of your report, even though this can be calculated from your date of birth. Other than that, your race and marital status are excluded from the report to prevent discrimination against you, and also becasue they are irrelevant in the process of issuing credit.
There is also one last thing you can do. If you have ever declared bankrupty, and you did so over ten years ago, you should make sure that it is no longer listed on your credit report. Debts of any description should also vanish after seven years, so check that both are not being counted against you becasue of poor bookkeeping on someone elses behalf.
The above tips can help you to improve the look of your credit report. Remember that a good credit report can make the difference when it comes to getting a loan or credit. Also remember that most of the credit report is out of your direct control but is influenced by your decisions, even if you would not like some of the information to be in there, you are stuck with it, so try to improve other sections. |
